The NCSU Center for Information Society Studies invites you to the second Research Seminar in the Distinguished Lecture Series, sponsored by the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, & Science; the NC State College of Management, and the NC State Office of the Provost. Jay David BolterWesley Professor of New Media & Director of Center for New Media Education and Research, Georgia Institute of Technology
"Remediation: Old Media and New Media"
Dr. Bolter's presentation will provide an historical and cultural
perspective on how the new digital media relate to earlier media. He
will focus on the implications of these relationships for computer
games, e-commerce, and other new uses of electronic media. He will also
discuss the implications of these changes for the world of business. Dr.
Bolter's presentation will be of interest to those in a wide variety of
disciplines, such as design, computer science, communication, media
studies, and business management.
Dr. Bolter is the co-author of Remediation: Understanding New Media
(MIT Press, 1998), and Writing Space: The Computer, Hypertext and the
History of Writing (Lawrence Erlbaum, 1991), among other publications.
Copies of Remediation and Writing Space will be available for
sale before and after Dr. Bolter's presentation, courtesy of the NCSU
Bookstore.
