Dr. Laura Gurak
Director, Center for Internet Studies,
Univ. of Minnesota; Author, Persuasion and Privacy in Cyberspace (Yale, 1997)

"Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain:
Privacy and Persuasion Behind the Interface"


Dr. Gurak teaches in the doctoral program in Rhetoric and Scientific and Technical Communication at the University of Minnesota and does research in the areas of computer-mediated communication, social aspects of computing, and intellectual property and electronic texts. Her book, Persuasion and Privacy in Cyberspace: The Online Protests over Lotus MarketPlace and the Clipper Chip, was published by Yale University Press in 1997, and her next one, Cyberliteracy: Navigating the Online World with Presence, is due from Yale later this year. She is also a regular commentator on Minnesota Public Radio.
