About Dr. T. L. Taylor
Dr. Taylor teaches courses on the media and Internet. She holds sociology
degrees from the University of California at Berkeley (B.A., '90) and
Brandeis University (M.A., '97 and Ph.D., '00). Her work focuses on the
Internet and new media, and her recent research is an in-depth study of
the nature of the body in virtual environments. The experience of users,
as well as the role software and design play in the creation of
computer-mediated communication spaces have both been central to her
work. Her article, "Life in Virtual Worlds: Plural existence,
multimodalities, and other online research challenges," (American
Behavioral Scientist, November 1999) grew out of her experience as an
"online ethnographer." Her home page is located at
