Rebecca Leonard teaches courses in Interpersonal Communication, Relational Communication and Communication and Gender. Dr. Leonard is a member of the NC State Academy of Outstanding Teachers, and has twice received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Department of Communication. Dr. Leonard's research interest is in teaching and learning excellence. Dr. Leonard served as Assistant Provost and Facilitator of Gender Equity from January 1990 until January 2000. She is one of the founders of "Bridges: Academic Leadership for Women," and an annual presenter during the program. Among her many projects while a member of the Provost's staff, Dr. Leonard was responsible for programs and activities in support of gender equity, including the Council on the Status of Women, the Coalition for Women in Mathematics, Science and Engineering, the annual Salary Equity study and leadership development programs for women faculty and staff, and she designed and piloted the First Year Experience program, now the First Year College.
