College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) -- 106 Caldwell Hall, phone 515-2468.   Jeff Braden, Interim Dean; Ed Funkhouser, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; Randy Thomson, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs.  Please keep in mind that academic concerns regarding students should first be addressed with the appropriate Associate Department Head in the Department of Communication, whether raised by the faculty member or the student.

Academic Calendar -- This takes you to a page with several calendars.  If you click on "Academic Calendar," you get the one that lists first day of class, holidays, last day to drop, etc.

My Library -- This is an excellent service that will allow you to create your own default NCSU home page, with the links you most frequently use and the types of resources you need for research and teaching.

TRACS Schedule -- This takes you to a semester-by-semester listing of all courses for which students can register.  It also shows current enrollment for those courses, restrictions, class times, etc.

Office of Student Conduct -- Paul Cousins, phone 515-2963.  Student Conduct is addressed in the Comprehensive Code of Student Conduct (Appendix "L" to the Handbook for Advising and Teaching).  It defines such terms as "academic integrity" and "plagiarism" in detail.

Student Legal Services -- 4130 University Student Center, phone 515-7091.  Student legal advising is available to all currently enrolled students for free.

Writing and Speaking Tutorial Services -- 147 Leazar Hall.  This academic service offers free one-on-one consultations to writers and speakers of all levels.  In 30-minute conferences, experienced tutors can help with all stages of the writing and speaking processes, including brainstorming, organizing, drafting, revising, and more.  Check web site for hours.

General Tutorial Services -- Provides tutorial services in many subject areas, such as math, foreign language, and engineering.

University Career Center -- 2100 Pullen Hall, phone 515-2396.  Woody Catoe is counselor for Communication majors.  Students should phone ahead for an appointment.  The Center has a wealth of resources on identifying and narrowing career goals, researching various career options, locating and researching potential employers (local and nationwide), and preparing for all facets of the job search.  Job listings for both full-time and part-time positions are filed there.  Seniors are encouraged to put their resumes online for broader opportunities. Services extend six months after graduation.

Counseling Center -- 2401 Student Health Center Building, phone 515-2423.  Enrolled students with personal or academic problems can obtain help at no charge.  Evening appointments are available on a limited basis, and a counselor is on call 24 hours a day at Student Health Service (phone 515-2563 or 515-2564).  Triangle Family Services, 401 Hillsborough Street, phone 821-0790, also provides private practice counseling, debt/credit counseling, etc. on a sliding fee scale.  Workshops are offered throughout the year on topics such as vocational exploration, test anxiety reduction, stress management and time management.  Faculty and staff seminars may be arranged by request.  Faculty are encouraged to contact the Center regarding concerns about a student.  All counseling is confidential.  You should also discuss this concern with the Associate Department Head.  If you fear for the immediate safety of yourself or the student, call Public Safety at 515-3333.

Wireless Computing -- Currently, CHASS has wireless coverage available for students, faculty, and staff throughout Winston, Caldwell, and Tompkins Halls.  In addition, there is wireless coverage in portions of the 1911 Building for use by the Sociology Department.  The network is not public, nor is it associated with the wireless setup throughout other portions of the campus.  If you would like to be connected to the CHASS wireless network, contact Garrett Hobbs (515-3512 or 515-1079) or CHASS Computing Services (515-3512).

Disability Services for Students -- Suite 1900 Student Health, phone 515-7653.  Dr. Cheryl Branker (formerly of our Department) is Director of Disability Services for NCSU.  Her telephone number is 513-3768.  She or her staff can direct you to the proper coordinator for a particular category of disability services, depending on the needs of the student. 

The following are examples of potential accommodations: Testing: extended time, Braille, enlarged print, testing in a separate room (to avoid distractions or allow for oral testing), flexible attendance requirement, assistance with note taking, individual assistance from professor, tutors, taped textbooks, interpreters, priority seating, class assignments in electronic format, and modified work stations.  The following are examples of non-reasonable accommodations: Testing: taking an easier test, taking an open-book test when the other students have a closed-book test, taking a take-home test when other students take theirs in class, a project in place of a test; less work than other students, and having the content of the course changed.

Emergency Services -- NCSU Public Safety, phone 515-3333.  Blue Light phones are located throughout campus to call NCSU Public Safety and/or to request an escort as you walk across campus.  A map to locate these phones is provided on the back cover of the Personal Safety booklet distributed each year.  To use the Blue Light phone, just pick up the receiver and await an operator.  Panic Buttons are located in restrooms and dead-end corridors in Winston Hall.  Use them if you find yourself in imminent danger of physical attack.  Campus Escorts are available by calling 515-3333. Do not hesitate to use them to get to your car in the evening.

Medical Emergencies should be reported using 515-3333.  Seriously ill or injured individuals will be transported to a local hospital.  The ambulance fee will be the responsibility of the individual. 

Fire alarms notify all faculty, staff and students to evacuate a building immediately, and to remain outside until informed by Public Safety that it is safe to return.  Do not use elevators for this evacuation.

English as a Second Language -- 145F 1911 Building.  Contact John Levis, phone 515-9299.  Provides services for ELS students and faculty dealing with those students.
