This website is about using an integrative approach to teaching
and learning. Our efforts are based on Dr. James Beane’s 35 years
of work and research in this area and his most recent book, Curriculum Integration, Designing the Core of Democratic Education. Earlier efforts of L. Thomas Hopkins, writings about “core curriculum”
and progressive education efforts in the 30s - 50s have informed
James Beane's views. More than anyone else, he has researched,
written and championed integrative teaching and learning as the
approach that credits teachers and their students with the intelligence
to pose, examine, research and learn about topics and issues of
tremendous importance.
