Pros & Cons of a National Curriculum | Who Decides?
An Ideal Curriculum | Democracy, Diversity & Equality

Democratic Social Integration

Schools have an obligation to promote democratic social integration. In place of a capitalistic, competitive structure, the classroom will be based on democracy, diversity and equality. These concepts are advocated but not always practiced in schools today nor in society in general.

Curriculum integration offers students the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to be part of a democracy. Students learn how to ask big questions and how to work cooperatively to find real answers.

Instead of approaching learning through separate subjects thus distancing it from everyday lives, the pursuit of knowledge utilizes what the students already know from experience and popular culture, as well as what books and teachers have to offer.

Curriculum integration teaches students to respect diversity and human dignity, discovering each others’ strengths as they work together to solve a problem.
