Grease. Big globs of grease!

Have you ever noticed how much grease is left in the skillet after you fry ?  What do fast food restaurants DO with all that grease they cook the French fries in?  It takes a lot of oil to fry all those tenders!  Where does all that left over grease go?

Well, some people do the right thing. They put the grease in a jar and get rid of it that way. (Yea, for them!) Some restaurants have special grease traps that keep the grease from flowing into sewer pipes.  Some do not have the money to install the right kind of grease traps, while others do not pump the traps the way they are suppose to. (Shame on them!)

Guess where that grease ends up?  You’re absolutely right – it gets into the sewer system and may very well end up getting into rivers and streams which could get into YOUR water.

How much grease do you think the average person is responsible for in a month?
Is it:

a.) 1/2 pound
b.) 2 pounds
c.) 1 cup
d.) 1 pound

If you guessed 1/2 pound, you’re absolutely right.  But just how much is a half of a pound?  Go look in your kitchen and see if you can find something that is equal to a 1/2 pound.  Now imagine that amount of grease going down the drain, through the sewer system and into the water -- (which is what could easily happen if there is a sewer spill or leak)  -- and then every single person you know putting the same amount of grease down their drain and into the water.  Makes you think, doesn’t it.
