What is Curriculum Integration?

Curriculum Integration is a teaching approach that enables students and teachers to identify and research problems and issues without regard for subject-area boundaries. Curriculum Integration consists of the following:
  • Organizing themes that are drawn from life experiences, which allows students to question and engage in real-life issues and promotes collaboration between students and teachers.
  • Learning is no longer segregated into subject areas or a collection of facts. Students use skills from all disciplines to reseach personal and global concerns.
  • Broad access to knowledge is provided to all students through learning that is worthwhile, relevant, and allows students of all backgrounds and abilities to contribute.

Curriculum Integration is not simply about doing things differently, but about doing something really different.
