Pros & Cons of a National Curriculum | Who Decides?
An Ideal Curriculum | Democracy, Diversity & Equality

Who decides on the curriculum now?

Currently there is no national curriculum, but big states drive publishers to write textbooks whose contents cater to their state's needs. Except for North Carolina, whose social studies textbooks 4-7 incorporate the state's standard course of study, the remaining states use textbooks written for the large market states. This forces smaller market states to modify or supplement publishers' texts to address their own standard course of study.
