Kente Cloth Activities

Rationale:

The purpose of this unit is to get students familiar with Kente Cloth and what the patterns and colors represent. This interdisciplinary activity is designed to teach students about the historical and cultural information concerning the particular Ghanaian cloth.

Objectives:

• To develop an appreciation for Ghanaian culture by designing kente cloth
• To explain and display some of the historical and cultural traditions of Ghana
• To explain the meaning of some symbols found on Kente cloth and the significance of its colors and patterns.
