A Russian Tour

Homework

Do you have to do homework? Here in Russia we have a lot of homework, about three to four hours of it every night! We use graph paper to write our work on because it helps us learn to write better, one square, one letter. Our letters aren’t like yours. We use the Cyrillic alphabet. It looks a lot like the Greek alphabet. Our teachers check our homework every day. They give us a grade in our grade book that we carry with us. Homework may give us a look at what we will study the next day.

Do your parents ask about school? Do you ever come home with a bad report card? Each day when I get home my parents will ask me, “Did you get anything today” and I will have to pull out my grade book and show them what grade I received. Usually they are pleased with my marks and if I have good marks at the end of the year we celebrate. What do you do to celebrate a good year at school?

Mauna, Raleigh, Corrina and Anna eat a cafeteria lunch.

Are you hungry? Let’s go to the cafeteria. Today they are serving hot soup, mashed potatoes with a little salad and bread. What do you eat for lunch? In our school students are responsible for cleaning up after lunch, so we are very careful and try not to make a mess.
