Pechory Monastery
St. Jonah Shesnik founded the Pechory Monastery in 1473. The church was built into the hillside to offer privacy and solitude for the monks. The monks grow their own food, bake their own bread, and make their own candles. Within the monastery is a library and an icon painting workshop. Today there are ten churches and over ninety monks residing in the monastery. |
