Shopping

Shops and Wares

Shopping in Russia is a lot of fun. There are three major types of shopping venues: the market, small street side shops, and large department-like stores. The markets are both outside and inside. Each individual booth specializes in a particular type of item like clothes, food, candy, fur, and car parts. In the market usually you can negotiate the price you are willing to pay for an item. The markets in Russia are similar to the flea markets we have in the U.S.

There are many small side shops along the streets in Russia. These stores may only sell one type of item like snack foods, or bread. These shops are very small and only a couple of people can fit in them at a time. Many of these are located outside the housing buildings and families usually have particular ones that they go to. Some people will set up tents outside the apartment buildings. They sell items to people throughout the day.

The larger stores you can go to have all kinds of things to buy. People work the different areas selling everything from underwear to car parts to yogurt. Everything is separated into its own area and sold by different venders.

Russian families love to hang beautiful pictures in their homes, as do American families!
