This holiday was established after the Second International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1910. On this day, women receive gifts and praise from the men in their lives. All businesses are closed and people spend time with the loved ones. This holiday is similar to Valentines Day and Mothers Day and is taken very seriously in Russia.
