After the ballroom, we visited the Amber Room. Amber is an orange-yellow, fossilized, tree sap (remember Jurassic Park?). Originally the walls were completely covered with pieces of amber, until the Germans looted the palace and stripped the walls. The Russians are trying to restore this room one panel at a time. This is Candy's favorite room. She has been to the palace three times over the past three years and has watched the restoration process. Angelina was amazed by the Picture Hall. The walls were papered with paintings that Catherine II had chosen not to frame. It showed her love of art and desire to surround herself with as many works of art as possible.
