All of a sudden I started having trouble with my breathing. The night before our trip to Kizhi Island, I had to sit on the edge of the bed taking short little breaths. I had only had 2 other asthma attacks in my life and here was another one. I finally decided I had to go see a doctor.

My family was worried about me and so was I! It's always scary to be sick away from home. Alexander took me to the clinic used by the scientists in his institute. The nurses had on white uniforms just like American nurses. On their heads they wore a pink pleated half crown headpiece. The doctor listened to my breathing and took my blood pressure. She determined that I needed an injection. After the shot I felt better right away. After a short rest they told me I could go, but that I should come back for a check-up the next day.

I had trouble breathing because of the many small leaf and trash fires that had been set to clean up the city for Spring. My lungs just couldn't manage all the smoke. You'll be glad to know that when I went back the next day they pronounced me well and ready to do more touring.

We attended a folk festival in the evening. We all expected native Karelian costumed dancers and musicians. Much to our surprise, it was more like a rock concert. It gave us a chance to see Russian teenagers in action. They really enjoyed themselves!
