Elliott Coues Nature Trail
An army surgeon who spent two years at Fort Macon inspired the creation of the nature trail, located near the fort's main entrance. Because he was so fascinated with the ecosystem surrounding the fort, he collected thousands of specimen and began to record his findings in numerous books.
