The relatively recent emergence of biotechnology-driven processes as an industry staple means that new chemical engineers must become as familiar with the these new processes as they are with older processes like distillation. Many universities are not able to secure appropriate industrial sponsorships for design projects that feature applied bioscience/biotechnology.Furthermore, some chemical engineering departments do not offer their students the option to focus their chemical engineering curriculum towards a career in biotechnology. As a result, there is a need to provide students in the chemical engineering departments of these universities an opportunity to pursue design projects with a biotechnology theme. The project and supplemental materials were developed for use in a capstone course in Chemical Engineering. More... |
