Domestic On-Line Application

Apply On-line

General Information

  • The Chemistry Department will pay the application fee for domestic applicants. Domestic applicants should ignore the statement on the Graduate School application page that indicates an application fee is due and select "I will send a check."  Do NOT send a check.  The Chemistry Department will pay this fee.
  • Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or in a closely related field with a strong Chemistry background.
  • The Department of Chemistry offers a number of financial aid packages to eligible students.
  • The Department of Chemistry offers a number of Honors Admissions Awards to highly qualified applicants.
  • The university has a FAQ to help answer your questions.

Application Requirements

  • A GPA of at least 3.0 (out of 4.0) in the sciences
  • Submission of GRE General Test scores are highly encouraged; the Subject Test is recommended.
  • Application and Statement of Purpose
  • Supporting Documents
    • One official transcript of your complete post-secondary academic record
    • Three reference letters
  • Completed residence form if claiming N.C. residence for tuition purposes

Note: We would prefer that you send your supporting documents to the Chemistry Department rather than to the Graduate School because this will allow us to process your application faster. However, if you have had your reference letters and transcripts already sent to the Graduate School, you do NOT need to resend them to the Chemistry Department.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall Semester: Although applications to the graduate program are evaluated year round, only a limited number of financial assistantships are available. To greatly increase your chances of receiving a financial assistantship, the Department of Chemistry must receive all application materials by January 15 for Fall admission. Although The Graduate School application deadline for Fall admission is June 25, please note that applications not received by January 15 are at a competitive disadvantage.
  • Spring Semester: A limited number of Spring admissions are made. For consideration for Spring admission, the Department of Chemistry must receive all application materials by August 15. The Graduate School application deadline for Spring admission is November 25.

Application Process

  • Apply on-line.
