GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in chemistry or in a closely related field with a strong chemistry background.
  • Application Fees ($75) for the Graduate Program in Chemistry must be paid by the applicant before the Department of Chemistry can review the application.
  • The department offers a number of financial aid packages to eligible students. Any international student receiving a teaching assistantship will have to pass a TSE test in order to receive the assistantship.
  • The university has a FAQ to help answer your questions.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A GPA of at least 3.0 (out of 4.0) in the sciences is required.
  • GRE General Test scores are required and the Subject Test is recommended.
  • TOEFL scores must be at least 550 (paper test) or 225 (computer test) or higher.
  • TWE score must be at least 4.0 or highter.

  • Supporting Documents
    • Two official transcripts of your complete post-secondary academic record.
    • Three reference letters.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • Fall Semester: Because of new Homeland Security regulations, all international applications and supporting documents must be received by January 15 for the Fall semester. Any applications received by the Department of Chemistry after January 15 and before April 30 will be considered for the Spring semester.
  • Spring Semester: A limited number of Spring admissions are made. For consideration for Spring admission, the Department of Chemistry must receive all application materials by April 30.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Apply on-line. Once you have submitted your application AND paid your application fee, the Department of Chemistry will review your application and supporting documents.
  • Send documents supporting your application to: Graduate Office, Department of Chemistry - Dabney Hall, 2620 Yarborough Drive, Campus Box 8204, NC State University, Raleigh, NC 27695-8204.
  • If you cannot apply on-line, request application materials (forms and procedures, department brochure, information on North Carolina State University, Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Area)
