Research Interest

Squid Magnetometer

Our research program involves molecular design and structure-property studies of open-shell molecules and molecular assemblies, with an emphasis on bis(semiquinone)s and their metal complexes. In particular, we are interested in:

• Rules for Linker-modulated exchange / superexchange coupling and spin-polarization in high-spin molecules,
• Effect of conformation on exchange coupling,
• Correlation of delocalization in mixed-valent oxidation states with exchange in S > 1/2 oxidation states,
• Preparation of multispin molecules with new and interesting properties including valence tautomerism ,
• Magnetic properties and zero-field splitting of metal complexes of paramagnetic and mixed-valent ligands,
• Preparation and magnetic properties of paramagnetic ligand-containing coordination polymers.
• Preparation of new single-molecule magnets.

The Research Experience
Students working in the group can gain experience in many or all of the following areas:

• all types of chemical synthesis (organic, inorganic, organometallic),
• spectroscopy (nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, electron paramagnetic resonance , UV-Vis, etc.),
• x-ray crystallography,
• electrochemistry,
• magnetometry,
• molecular modeling,
• computational chemistry,
• surface chemistry,
• materials chemistry.
