The Department of Chemistry at North Carolina State University invites outstanding applications for a full time, 12-month (with a possibility of renewal dependent on satisfactory performance and continuation of funding) position of a Postdoctoral Research Associate, under the direction of Dr. Gavin Williams. You will be involved in projects involving the directed evolution of enzyme function, particularly those related to the biosynthesis of natural products and other small drug-like molecules. Our laboratory workspace if fully-equipped with molecular biology and protein production instrumentation and is newly-renovated. We also have access to robotic colony pickers and liquid handling machines. To be considered, applicants must have a Ph.D. in a bio-organic or related discipline. Experience with modern molecular biology techniques and organic synthesis is required, while expertise in directed evolution/natural product biosynthesis is preferred. A doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant science field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or molecular biology with experience in biomolecular engineering and use of physical methods in biology is required. Experience in Electron Spin Resonance spectroscopy and spin-labeling is desirable, but not required. Postdoctoral position in high-resolution solid-state NMR of membrane proteins at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC.
The position is up to two years (funded by a grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center) starting in March 2009. Various projects deal with new experimental and theoretical developments in solid-state NMR of oriented membrane proteins, including the studies of the conformations of viral peptides in various lipid environments.
Strong preference will be given to candidates who have in-depth experience in protein expression and purification, but individuals interested in solid-state NMR methodology development (pulse sequences and structure calculation algorithms) will also be considered. Prior knowledge of solid-state NMR is not essential. PhD in Chemistry or other closely related scientific field is required.
