Director of Laser Facilities at North Carolina State University
The Department of Chemistry seeks a director to manage the daily operation of the multi-user laser facility in the Department of Chemistry. This is an EPA at-will professional staff position. Responsibilities include the operation and routine maintenance of ultrafast oscillators and amplifiers, nonlinear optical systems and related equipment, Nd:YAG lasers and OPOs, and gas lasers. The candidate should also have extensive experience in ultrafast and conventional transient absorption, ultrafast infrared and step-scan FT-IR, time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, the design of complex laser-based experiments and LabView programming. The candidate will scientifically collaborate with students, postdocs, and faculty, develop and implement Facility policies in conjunction with Associate Chair and users' group, manage Facility finances, develop the Facility's website, and compose instrumentation proposals to further enhance the capabilities of the Facility. Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Physics and three or more years of experience in managing a multi-user laser facility. Postdoctoral Research Scholar
A postdoctoral position is available for an NSF-funded project aimed at construction of a new instrumentation platform for studying membrane proteins by a combination of ESR and solid-state NMR methods. Motivated individuals possessing skills in millimeter-wave equipment and/or pulsed ESR are invited to apply. The qualified person will be involved in construction of W-band resonators and assembly of quasi-optical transmission lines.

Postdoctoral Research Scholar
A postdoctoral research position is available in the Laboratory of Prof. T. Smirnova at the North Carolina State University Chemistry Department (Raleigh, NC).

Biophysical EPR of biological membranes and membrane proteins. Research projects include molecular mechanism of lipid transport by phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins (PITPs), and mechanisms of interactions of viral peptides with biological membranes. Responsibilities will depend upon the applicants' area of expertise, and may include protein expression and purification, EPR spectroscopic analysis, DSC, and HPLC.
