Salutes to Excellence Awards
“Salutes to Excellence Awards” were presented by Professor Morteza Khaledi
during the graduation ceremony on May 12 to four chemistry faculty
members. This unique group of professors has spent nearly half or more
than half of their lives, some 30-42 years, in service to North Carolina
State University.
Professor Carl Bumgardner was saluted for 42 years of excellence in
teaching organic chemistry until his recent retirement at age 81.
Having served 11 years as the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor
Charles Boss was honored for excellence in undergraduate advisement,
teaching, and research.
Professor William Switzer was saluted for 21 years as the Director of
Chemical Outreach for the K-12 “Chemistry on the Road” program, excellence
in teaching, and 30 years of service to the local NC chapter of the
American Chemical Society.
Professor George Wahl Jr., not in attendance, was honored for 42 years of
excellence in promoting chemical safety and teaching organic chemistry.
Each honoree received a certificate and a matching plaque furnished by the
American Chemical Society. These awards were sponsored by the Office of
Community Activities.
