EDDIE BAREFOOT
ELECTRONIC & INSTRUMENT SHOP SUPERVISOR [SPA]
SUPERVISOR: KENNETH HANCK, ASSOCIATE CHAIR

  • Manages the Electronic and Instrument Shop and supervises Electronic Shop personnel
  • Provides for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electronic instruments including 300+ computers, 100+ printers and numerous other electronic instruments
  • Assists faculty, graduate students and postdocs in the selection/purchase of data acquisition and other electronic measurement equipment
  • Maintains the department’s nine NMR spectrometers
  • Compiles a library of technical literature to keep electronic background up-to-date
  • Is a member of the department’s Safety Committee and Operations Committee
  • Provides guidance and has knowledge of all applicable NC State Health and Safety regulations, radiation regulations, OSHA regulations, and the operating policies and procedures of the Department and College

  • Prepares the chemicals and solutions for the general chemistry labs

  • Provides administrative assistance to the Undergraduate Program (BS and BA), which consists of over 350 chemistry majors

SUPERVISOR: MARIA GALLARDO-WILLIAMS, LECTURER & COORDINATOR, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY LABS

  • Prepares a short prelab lecture for his lab sections which he then presents to his students
  • Writes, administers and grades two to three lab quizzes each semester. One of the quizzes is a safety quiz and the other quizzes concern the laboratory work
  • Evaluates and grades student lab reports
  • Assists the students (such as answering their questions) when they are performing their lab work.
  • Determines, at the end of the semester, each student's final laboratory percentage and submits these grades to the laboratory coordinator

  • Provides and supports laboratory demonstrations for lecturers in the General and Organic Chemistry service programs
