"Please provide any other comments you have about ClassTech rooms, their support or classroom technology in general ?"
The VCR DVD player combo remote did not have batteries in it. This made the use of this equipment difficult.
I love teaching in these rooms.
Near the beginning of the semester, the computer would often give several errors -none critical, but the startup and shutdown processes weren't smooth. It would be nice if the remote control mouse had longer range (or perhaps the receiver in a better location). I know this isn't necessarily about the tech in the classroom, but the layout of 1231 makes it extremely difficult to walk among the students (you can only walk on the outsides of the room) -very limiting.
these are great facilities. thank you.
The document camera in T-G112 was not always working properly. It would blink on and off. This was an intermittent problem, however, so I have no idea if it's worth spending time to diagnose.
See above--strong support makes the occasional glitch unusual.
Support response time is not bad, but when I have a 50-minute class period that is planned around some visual aid that I can't get working, every minute counts. I can't overemphasize the importance of being able to access my unity desktop/filespace/email from these machines. When usb ports or drives fail, this is the only way to get to my presentation materials.
I was impressed that after the first day of class a ClassTech representative showed up to ask whether I needed any help.
The light switches in DSW 158 at the desk don't work.
Although the remote mouse has a second, rechargable battery in a stand, the microphone relies on AA batteries, which I sometimes remember to bring. If there are wireless microphones with rechargable battery packs on the market, I would look at those at your next purchase. This was the one element of the technology that was often not working.
There are now a couple of rooms at least in EB 2 with flashing florescent lights. I know I have called one of them in last Spring, but I still see a problem. Please place a higher priority on keeping the light ballasts in order. I suspect the bulbs are getting replaced but it's a bad balast.
Aside from the ceiling mounted projector, DAN 429 seems to offer nothing. It's long overdue for renovation and updating.
Someone from ClassTech came by early in the semester and showed me how to use everything. He was very helpful because I had no idea how to use anything.
Thanks for assigning me to a ClassTech room, and please continue to do so in the future.
Several times this semester I found the classtech computer had been turned off. Booting it up takes 5 minutes or more (!), so if I came in just before the start of class, there was some dead time there. A sign saying "do not turn off!" on the power switch would fix this problem. Thanks, Doug Reeves
If you aren't going to leave the hand help controllers for the projectors, then you need to include some way to adjust the images from the lecture, i.e. - incorporate it into the control panel.
I experienced a schedule conflict with ClassTech staff for the first time this semester (having taught in the same room for 5 years). I taught at 8:30AM and am in the habit of stopping by the classroom on my way into the building around 7:30AM to boot up the PC and load my lecture slides. This semester a ClassTech staff member unexpectedly began doing a check during that time window and logging me off the PC, causing a brief delay to log back on when I returned to teach. This was only a minor annoyance and not a huge issue, but it would be nice to have some channel for communicating with the staff member so s/he could be informed of my room use schedule to avoid these conflicts. On another note, ClassTech did an excellent job of keeping good batteries in the wireless mic this semester--I didn't have to use my own battery once!
Please retain the computers in the classrooms. They really save a lot of time in terms of set-up.
Classtech function and support are now 100% needed.
The technology is well executed and supported.
The technology worked great, but having the screen in the corner (113 Harrelson) is a problem. Students at the back can't see the bottom half of the screen, and I show a lot of videos in my course. It would be MUCH beter to have the projector aimed at the screen in the FRONT of the room. Thanks.
CHASS Tech folks are fantastic; I always appreciate their patient and timely support. We douldn't function without them. These classrooms really improve the learning experience, improve productivity, and save money. THANKS.
I feel the class-tech rooms are maintained very well and provide the necessary resources to support computer-facilitated instruction
Maybe I just don't know how to do it, but when I use the projector for powerpoint I could not figure out how to trun off the light with out having to turn off the entire projector whe I wanted to write something on the blackboard in between slides.
I was happy with the personal assistance I received, but I was quite disappointed with the number of equipment malfunctions.
I've had great experence. I hope I can always get a CT room--I'd be lost without in now...
Inexperienced users are the worst enemy of the system. They turn off computers, fail to turn off projectors, don't log off, disconnect devices, and basically screw things up. Anything that can be done to guide such users through the proper use of the equipment will help things run smoothly for the rest of us.
I hope in the near future that every classroom will be ClassTech classroom
When they work as smoothly as TG118, all classrooms should be smart ones. Good job all.
Thank you. I'm really excited about teaching using this kind of resource!
Very satisfied with the people I have met or talked with; keep it going.
Chalk boards need to be replaced. They're toxic.
