"Do you have any suggestions for ways to improve the support provided for this ClassTech room?"
Standardized clickers used all over the university. They MUST be the responsibility of the students, not the instructor or the department.
Some of the problems that occured might have been remedied by frequent (daily?) checks of the equipment. Once the problem was reported, the problem was quickly fixed, but the lecture during which the problem occured was adversely affected.
Replace wHITE BOARDS WITH cHOCK BOARDS
The quality of the document camera in BOS 3712 is marginal. It is often blurry (even after correcting the iris), and colors do not show up well. This piece of equipment really needs to be replaced with a finer model. It would be extremely(!) useful to have a smart screen hooked up to the overhead projector, where the instructor could show a PowerPoint and actually write on the computer screen and have it projected, and then have the ability to capture it.
This room seats over 100 students, but the back rows are at a disadvantage as it is extremely difficult to see the bottom of the screen if using the projector.
When software upgrades occur, please make sure all previously installed programs work. This term, there was some type of upgrade done over spring break or easter break; subsequently, the PRS clicker software had to be re-installed. This wasn't a big deal except that I teach first thing in the morning and had no opportunity to correct the problem before my class; hence, my prepared lecture with accompanying clicker questions had to be adjusted on the fly. Such things happen, of course, but it would be more efficient to avoid these situations whenever possible.
Not sure that you don't already take this into consideration in your regular maintenance schedule -- but it is really important to check the room immediately after weekend use. Regarding clickers -- I prefer TurningPoint Technology. The software is the best that I've seen and it interfaces wonderfully with PowerPoint and Excel -- allowing for spur of the moment changes in questions in response to an issue raised in class. Files are easily extracted in forms usable in various web-based platforms. At this stage of the game, I sort of think the clicker software is a more important concern than the clicker itself...
Stress that instructors need to turn off projectors after class. When they do not, the projector shuts off in the middle of the next class because it needs to cool down. This is most annoying.
I frequently teach at night, so any help calls I would make would be after 6 pm. This is why I contact my departmental or college suppport staff.
No problems
The wireless mike has been a significant problem. It squawks badly at certain locations in the room. As you know, the volume control doesn't work, which sometimes meant that the mike was left in an unusable state. We all thought it odd that with all the rhetoric about fast response nothing could be done until the semester ended.
If remote had laser point it would be one less thing to hold in hand
Document camera is a little blurry.
The screen is in front of the white board, making it impossible to write on the board and project simultaneously. I spent a lot of time raising and lowering the screen to work back and forth between the white board and projected images. It would be good if there good be a configuration to allow simultaneous use of the projection and the board.
Do not let people change anything in the class room other than turn on or off.
All equipment must work daily. If a class session is created to use the technology and then it does not work, the frustration level is immense.
The quality and style of the wireless microphone varies from day-to-day so I have invested $250 to buy my own. I would appreciate help setting the channel on this microphone to the channel (14) in Witherspoon.
way to keep working dry erase markers working, hard to know each class if they will be any or not
No suggestions. Support is great.
Maybe an optional schedule of days during the first three weeks of the semester during which support staff visit every ClassTech room?
No. They could not have been more helpful. They answered my questions and were never condescending or patronizing--even though I'm sure some of my questions were of the idiot variety.
Have a user's manual at the podium (one that includes an explanation of the icons on the computer keyboard and the remotes.
You are doing a good job
Why is Brooks 320 NOT a CLASS TECH room? This is the college of design. We DO images. Is this a joke
I assume there is a user's manual somewhere (but I never found it). If not, it might help to have a basic "Here's how to turn on XXX." or "Here's what to do if your web page keeps going blank." (I actually had this happen, but a student got me out of it -- the hard way, I later learned). Four pages max.
Keep hiring great folks to give service. Aslso offer updates on tech use to us old timers again some time. I forget some of the procedures..... :-)
I didn't have a problem this year, but it would be helpful to send out an email to instructors in the classroom if there is a problem with a piece of equipment in the room.
I think you are doing a great job. Keep up the excellent work.
I have been very pleased with the equipment, support, and quick response to problems.
Projector needs maintenance and bulb replacement (very dim)
Add black out curtains
install machines that do not require daily interaction with the overworked class tech people
Maybe I missed it somewhere in the room - but a place showing all the ways to increase the volume including how to access volume controls on a PC.
No suggestions.
Help for night classes would be nice--but I understand the limitations.
CLASS Tech training and support was very good
Would like support for and inclusion of a SmartBoard in a classroom.
You have a phone, that's great, a person who knows on call is excellent
It was good this year. Someone made sure things were ready for my 8:05
It would be good to know how to contact campus security if there is an emergency. Do you dial 911 from the phone, or do you dial 9 for an outside line and then 911? It would be good to have the phones clearly labeled.
My technological knowledge is so poor that I did not know how to answer some of your questions, including 10-and 11 above.
