"Please provide any other comments you have about ClassTech rooms, their support, or classroom technology in general."
Unfortunately, this classroom did not have a computer or a doc cam (which I would have used extensively).
"One time I had a computer that wouldn't boot so I called the number on the stickers in the room and on the screen for tech support. I was told calss-tech didn't service my room and to call someone else. When I called the "someone else" I got a voicemail. This was really frustrating, but after trying several more times (and wasting 1/3 of the class time) I finally got it to boot on my own. It would be very helpful to have a number to contact in case of difficulties in the room or on the screen that services the room in which it is placed."
Support has always been good
Overall GREAT JOB!!! Thank you!
The projector points at the screen that covers half of the board. I would rather it point to the other projector so that I could use all of the whiteboard.
I videotape presentations in Witherspoon Cinema on 14 Sunday afternoons per year (always to a packed house). However, the lighting is poor for this filming.
There are 3 things that I've listed in reverse order of importance that I don't like about this room (otherwise it is great and likely the best room I've ever taught in). 1. The monitor is on a movable arm, but when you move it, it doesn't stay where you put it and even though it's supposed to lift up and down, it migrates to the down position. 2. The console is so large, bulky and black that (combined with #3) I feel like I'm hiding out from my class back there and it takes up lots of my mobility space that I have in other classrooms. 3. The lights. If you turn off the lights at the front to optimize the screen projection, I'm standing in the dark. I haven't found a way to just dim the light in front of the screen but leave on the can lights in front of the whiteboard where we can have a dual focus of attention. So if I try to write on the whiteboard while also showing PowerPoint, the students have difficulty reading the writing on the board because the lights are off.
Very good overall.
Thank you for great service.
The design of the ClassTech rooms in Jordan Hall is awful. The screens are far from the control panels, which can make the presenter walks hither and yon. Worst is the lighting. It is impossible to light the presenter and dim the lights in front of the screens. In some rooms, the overhead lights directly in front of the screens cannot be turned off (I guess for emergency evacuation), so the screen image is always washed out. In general, the classrooms were very poorly designed, apparently the architects never taught or seriously observed those who do teach and learn in these rooms.
Despite budget cuts, responses to calls were relatively quick and problems were resolved before the end of affected class sessions.
I need a connection to output audio from my own laptop to the audio sustem.
the whiteboard is too small. More white board space is needed
The classrooms are great. For support, see my remarks above.
I would really like to start using student clickers in my class but am unsure about how to do this. Is this information available online somewhere? Are all classrooms equipped for students to use this technology?
The greatest limitation seems not to be the equipment in the rooms, but the number of rooms that have this equipment. However, I would LOVE to be able to record video of these lectures. I already self-record audio & post this on the course web site alongside the extension web page lecture notes.
Clickers were not available in Riddick 451. I would have used them almost every day, if they were provided.
I having been using Elluminate to capture Audio/Projected content.
sound is always a complaint when the class is full
We have come a long way, but we really need to redo lighting in almost all of the projector classrooms.
Thank you for your continued support; it makes teaching a pleasure
If I was going to teach in the future, I might want to capture classroom events, but since I'm not, the point is moot.
None
I once taught in a room run by media services that has an electonic white board. I could write on it and it projected on a screen. Everything was saved in a pdf file
I wish we had more technology classrooms on campus
1. I know this is probably not your problem, but please fix the seats that do not have a desk top in 2722 Bostian. This is probably about 10 seats. Our department has students who want to take our courses but we cannot accomodate them with the broken seats. 2. I teach a DE course and it would be nice to capture video and audio certain lecture/discussion presentations for those students to view. 3. How do you use clickers...I am considering this for quizes and attendance records. Who do I contact? Thanks!
Love the opportunities that this classroom provides.
repairs are slow, taking two to three weeks.
The room we were assigned, Dabney 630, is probably not considered a tech classroom and yet we needed one because all the source material, textbook, multimedia, etc., for this course is online. There was no in-class computer, the connection of the computer to the overhead projector was extremely difficult, there were no class external speakers, and the room web connection was always sporadic and poor.
A better way to advance power point slides remotely than by holding the wireless mouse would be good (e.g., small devices about the size of flash drives).
I appreciate the VCRs and hope they don't go away-- some of our material is only available on VHS.
I sincerely appreciate your support.
