There is a formal application process for intra-campus transfers into the College of Education. Information about the application processis available on the College of Education website. Requirements for specific education majors are described below.

Department of Curriculum and Instruction

Business and Marketing Education:

To transfer from another NC State major, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5.

 

Middle Grades Education: Language Arts and Social Studies:

To transfer from another NC State major, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5 and GPA of 2.5 in the teaching field (English and history courses).

 

Department of Elementary Education

Interested students must become a part of the Elementary Education “Applicant Pool.” The Applicant Pool serves as a type of waiting list for students that desire transfer to Elementary Education. Candidates for admission are selected from the Applicant Pool based on a number of criteria, including but not limited to GPA, personal statement, transcript review, and reference evaluation. The Applicant Pool is open to any NC State student that is currently in a degree-seeking program and has completed at least one full semester of study at NCSU. There is a minimum 2.75 overall GPA in order to be eligible for the Applicant Pool. There is an application packet, which includes policy and procedures for the Applicant Pool, as well as deadline and notification dates. Students interested in becoming part of the Applicant Pool will need to submit a paper application. Meeting Applicant Pool requirements does not guarantee admission.

 

Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education

First-semester freshmen may not transfer into the department.

 

Middle Grades Education - Mathematics:

To be considered for transfer into MED, second-semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a GPA of 2.5 in their teaching field (math). Also, juniors and seniors must have 8 credit hours of calculus (MA 141 and MA 241) and 4 credit hours of science.

 

Preferred requirement is an overall GPA of 2.75 in addition to the minimum requirements listed above.  Effective 8/4/2014 the 2.75 GPA will be a minimum requirement for transfer consideration.

 

Middle Grades Science Education:

Second-semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a GPA of 2.5 in the teaching field of science. Additional course requirements are 8 credit hours of science and 3-4 credit hours of calculus.

 

Secondary Mathematics Education:

To be considered for transfer into MED, second-semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a GPA of 2.5 in their teaching field (math). Also, juniors and seniors must have 8 semester hours of calculus (MA 141 and MA 241) and 4 semester hours of biology, chemistry, or physics.

 

Preferred requirement is an overall GPA of 2.75 in addition to the minimum requirements listed above.  Effective 8/4/2014 the 2.75 GPA will be a minimum requirement for transfer consideration.

 

Secondary Science:

Technology, Engineering and Design Education:

To be considered for transfer into TDE, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5.
