Control Theory as a Modeling Tool in Physiology

For various control loops in the cardiovascular-respiratory system the
controls are generated in the medulla on the basis of incoming sensory
signals. Since the underlying processes are not known sufficiently
well in order to develop physiology based models, one has to use
concepts from control theory in order to come up with submodels for
generation of the control signals from sensory input. In the talk we
present various results concerned with this problem obtained in our
group in Graz in recent years.
