Modeling Antibiotic Resistance Epidemics in Hospitals

Hospital acquired (nosocomial) infections caused by
antibiotic-resistant pathogens are a serious public health
problem. Mathematical models provide a means to study the transmission
dynamics of nosocomial epidemics in hospitals. The models focus on
healthcare worker contamination by patients, patient infection by
healthcare w1orkers, and antibiotic exposure of patients. The models
allow analysis of intervention measures designed to reduce the
severity of nosocomial epidemics.
