- The North Carolina Alliance to Create Opportunity through Education (OPT-ED) is an alliance consisting of all NSF-sponsored diversity programs in North Carolina: AGEP, CREST, LSAMP, and HBCU-UP, and the North Carolina Math and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN). OPT-ED Alliance Day is designed to serve as a forum to encourage undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups to pursue doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), and to emphasize to middle & high school students, and their parents and teachers, the importance of pursuing the baccalaureate degree and then going on to pursue the doctorate. The event will include a poster session, oral research presentations, student and faculty panels, a recruiting fair, and special-topic breakout sessions. NC-MSEN Pre-College Program students who are juniors and seniors have first priority to attend. We will accept freshmen and sophomores as well. In addition, we are only able to bring 30 students to this event. We will take students on a first-come first-serve basis, and we will provide a charter bus for transportation.
