Required Experiences:

  1. Participate the 8 week program where students learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership. You will be in a small group of 12 - 15 students. The class will be led by a CSLEPS instructor. This program begins with a retreat on Saturday, February 9, 2008.
  2. Each small group will then meet for 1 hour each week for 6-weeks. Class Assignments
  3. Your group will either participate in Service Raleigh (a Saturday in late March or early April) OR select a different weekend and do a service project together as a group.

Suggested Optional Additional Experiences:

•  Participate in a CSLEPS service-learning trip (AFB, AWB or ASB) or a club service trip
•  Attend a leadership conference (WILD, LEAD, NCARH, SAACURH, Club sponsored leadership conference, etc)
•  Attend the LeaderShape Institute
•  Attend an LDS Workshops that interests you

 

What is the Social Change Model of Leadership?

INDIVIDUAL - The development of personal qualities that make you effective in a group (student organization, on the job, as a leader) .

Consciousness
of Self
Awareness of the values, emotions,
attitudes, and beliefs that motivate one to take action.
Congruence
Thinking, feeling, and behaving with consistency, genuineness, authenticity, and honesty toward others.
Commitment
The psychic energy that motivates the individual to serve and that drives the collective effort.

GROUP - The development of skills that allow/assist groups in working together effectively as a team and also maintain individuality.

Collaboration

Achieving common goals by sharing responsibility, authority, and accountability.

Common Purpose
Working with shared aims and values,
facilitating the groups’ ability to engage in collective analysis of the task at hand.
Controversy
with Civility
Recognizing that differences in viewpoint are inevitable and valuable and that such differences must be aired openly and with respect and courtesy.

COMMUNITY - Working together as a group/team to accomplish a task, goal, program, or event that serves the community or greater good.

Citizenship
The process whereby an individual and the collaborative group become responsibly connected to the community and the society.

CHANGE - The ability to adapt to environments and situations that are constantly evolving, while maintaining the core functions of the group.
