The “Leadership In Action” program will serve as CSLEPS premier leadership program. LIA includes 3 phases of leadership development for NC State students. Fifty students will be invited to participate in the first class of LIA. Participants will apply fall of their freshman year and begin the program in the spring. Why should students be involved in a formal leadership development program?

“Being involved in leadership training and education is crucial to your success at NC State and beyond. Being involved in a program like “Leadership In Action” will assist you in gaining clarity about who you are as well as what you want to do with your life. This is extremely important to employers and recruiters, as they desire candidates who know their leadership strengths, weaknesses and interests. Important information should they choose to hire you!”

* Leslie Rand-Pickett, NCSU Career Counselor

PHASE 1 - Education

To be a well rounded leader Phase 1 is divided into 3 sections: Discover 1, 2 & 3.

  • Discover 1 is an 8 week program where students learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership. You will be in a small group (12 - 15 participants) led a CSLEPS instructor.
  • Discover 2 includes attendance at a Discover 2 Retreat, 3 LDS workshops and community service.
  • Discover 3 includes attendance at a Discover 3 Retreat, 3 LDS workshops and community service.

At the end of Phase 1 you will have earned the Visionary Leaders Certificate.

PHASE 2 - Practice

Phase 2 participants attend the Phase 2 retreat where they will learn about the Relational Leadership Model, Multiculturalism & Leadership, and Mentoring. Additionally participants will mentor a peer and be actively involved in a campus leadership position or job.

After completing phase 2 you will earn a Certificate in Mentoring.

PHASE 3 - Action

Phase 3 participants will select a "captone" leadership project where they will apply all the knowledge and skills learned in Phase 1 & 2.

After completing phase 3, you will earn your Leadership In Action Diploma.
