So what have past participants had to say about Emerge?

I owe everything I learned from these leadership courses and all the leadership skills I have acquired to my dad. If it was not for him I would have never even known about the opportunity to learn about leadership and would not be the leader I am today. My freshman year started off a little shaky. I was so excited about the freedom and fun of college that I did not put as much time and effort into my studies as I should have. Because of this my parents and I were not happy with the grades I received from my first semester. My dad started searching for ways to help me focus on school and make me realize that learning about my future profession and earning good grades are more important than having fun and going to parties all the time. He decided the Emerging Leaders Program would be a great way to accomplish these goals. I was reluctant at first, but eventually made the right decision, a decision that has shaped me to be the great leader I am today.

The Emerging Leaders Program is what inspired me to pursue the Visionary Leadership Certificate in the first place. I enjoyed the program so much that I felt the desire to complete more leadership workshops, which led to the decision to earn my Visionary Leadership Certificate. I never really considered myself a leader before engaging in this program. The small group environment with the same group of about 15-20 students for nine weeks was tremendous experience and great start of leadership journey. This program gave me the opportunity to practice being a leader in small groups for the first time. The small group environment was very new to me, and I was very nervous for the fist couple of weeks. As the program went on, I found myself taking and participating more as I was becoming more and more confident with myself. This was the first crucial stem in my leadership journey. I would not be the leader I am today if it was not for the inner confidence I gained as a result of this program.

I continue to apply the skills I developed in the Emerging Leaders Program in my life everyday. Whether it may be to speak out against something I feel is wrong, participate more in class, or have an active leadership role in small group projects, I owe it all to this program. Not only did it teach me how to be a leader and begin shaping me to be a leader, but it also sparked an interest in developing these skills further through other leadership development series courses. Before completing this program I always thought people were born to be leaders, and leadership was not something that could be taught. This program opened my eyes and helped me realize there is a leader inside each and every person waiting to be developed and realized.

"This program helped me become more aware of others point of view, whether it be problem solving or with communication. Effective communication allows a leader to transmit not only knowledge about how to complete a task, but also urgency and why the task needs to be done." ~Mike Geci

"Through the activities and programs I found the leader within me waiting to come out."

"Participating in the Emerging Leaders Program was a stimulating experience. I learned valuable lessons about interacting with people while gaining confidence in my ability to become a more action-oriented leader."

"I will definitely remember the things I've learned in this class when I participate as a leader in the future."

"The Emerging Leaders Program helps you enrich your personal values and empower your leadership skills."

"I have become more aware of what needs to be done in the community and how I can go about changing these problems."

"With school, with work, with all that we do, I think most college students have lost touch with themselves. This program helps you find out who you really are and inspires you to use that knowledge to enact positive change."

"The Emerging Leaders Program is a great way to meet new people while developing into a stronger person and applying leadership skills to everyday life."

"I had fun while participating in this program. I learned things about myself that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't have gotten involved with The Emerging Leaders Program. This course has given me a better understanding of myself and where others are coming from and their points of view."

I was pleasantly surprised by what I've learned. There was a great energy in the room. * Sandra Theiss
