NC-ACTS! is an AmeriCorps program of North Carolina Campus Compact
(NCCC), and funded by a grant from the Corporation for National
& Community Service. This program seeks to foster civic engagement
among students of higher education, promote the national service
movement, and encourage collaborative relationships between campuses
and their communities.
NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps members will complete 300 hours of community
service during the academic year at 1-2 nonprofit agencies of
their choice. NCSU NC-ACTS! members may serve in three different
areas:
Education
- Examples include, but are not limited to, tutoring elementary
school children, mentoring high school students, working with
refugees on financial literacy
- Student Teaching counts!
Human Needs
- Examples include, but are not limited to, working in a homeless
shelter, serving in area hospitals, participating as a volunteer
EMT
- Social Work Interns are eligible!
Volunteer Recruitment/Capacity Building
- Examples include, but are not limited to, coordinating volunteers,
working with publicity
and marketing for volunteer programs, assisting with technological
needs of nonprofit's
- The opportunities are incredible!
- This program is ideal for student teachers, social work interns,
and students otherwise committed to long-term service. For those
students hoping to begin or expand their volunteer experience,
we would be pleased to assist you to find a good match!
- Connect with other NCSU students who share a similar concern
for their communities
- We will meet 2 times a semester to reflect on your service experience
and enjoy team and individual development activities

still, these meetings will all count toward your 300-hour commitment!
- Network with other NC-ACTS! members across the state.
- You will participate in online reflection sessions.
- EARN A $1000 EDUCATIONAL AWARD
- Members receive an educational award of $1000 upon completion
of 300 hours of community service over the course of Fall and
Spring semesters. The educational can be applied to college tuition,
current or future student loans, or graduate school costs.
- NC State has requested 15 slots for 2009-10 from our sponsoring office
-NC Campus Compact.
- Please return your completed application to Daniel Shattuck in the CSLEPS Office (3115 Talley).
- Priority is given to NC State students who are in academic internships that meet the criteria above (education, human service, etc.)
