Campus Pals

A Mentoring Program

Campus Pals was created in the fall of 2003. The program has connected NC State students with area children in need of an adult mentor. This program is a partnership between CSLEPS, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Triangle and the YMCA of the Triangle - Alexander Family YMCA. The mission of BBBS is to make a positive difference in the lives of children by promoting their self-esteem, expanding their awareness of life's opportunities, and providing them with guidance and support through long-term, one-to-one mentorships with caring adult volunteers. Bigs will be screened and selected during September of 2009 and are asked to commit to the program from October 2009 - April 2010.

Site Based Program - A site based Campus Pal is matched with a child enrolled at Wiley Elementary School who participates in the Central YMCA after school program. In this type of relationship, volunteers meet with a child on Wednesday afternoons from 4-5:30pm during the after school program.

CSLEPS will provide transportation for all NC State Campus Pals during the 2009-2010 academic year. Two 15-passenger vans will leave promptly at 3:45pm each Wednesday from Talley Student Center. The van will bring volunteers back to Talley around 5:45pm.

Community Based Program - A community based Campus Pal is matched with a child for the academic year. In this type of relationship you will pick the child up and plan your time together. Volunteers are matched with a child and share a variety of mutually enjoyable activities. You will be expected to spend several hours a month with the child. Meetings times/dates will be decided by the "Big" and the child's parent/guardian. (Transportation required). To apply to be a community matched fill out the BBBS application. The entire selection process will be run by their office.

Selection Process:

10-6-09 ~ The Wiley Elementary School site Based program is full. You may still apply for a space at Washington Elementary School or as a community matched BBBS.
