Service Organizations

Click on one of the links below for more information about one of NC State's student-run service organizations. The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service provides office space for student groups who choose to affiliate with our office. These groups must perform service to the local community. Get involved and help these students make a difference!

Clubs Affiliated with CSLEPS:

Compassion In Action - CIA is a student organization founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to begin to coordinate relief efforts of the NC State community. While coordinating and planning events, such as Mission Mardi Gras, the NC State community has raised over $83,000 for the American Red Cross to benefit New Orleans. Engineers Without Borders - EWB partners with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects while developing internationally responsible engineers and engineering students. Habitat For Humanity -Habitiat for Humanity is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and making adequate, affordable houses for people in need. The NC State chapter is dedicated to service by participating in Saturday work days where they build houses for those in need. In addition to these work days, they run demolition crews, tutor children of Habitat homeowners, host fall and spring break building trips and sponsor fundraising events such as "Shack-a-thon" and the Spring 5K "Run for your Neighbor" race.

Nourish International - Nourish International is a student movement to think critically about poverty, and initiate long-term, sustainable solutions. Our mission is to connect the resources and skills of college students with the needs of impoverished communities. The NC State chapter was established in the fall of 2006. Pack-a-thon (formerly Dance Marathon) Pack-a-thon, NC State University's Dance Marathon is a yearlong student fund-raising effort for the North Carolina Children's Hospital. The Fundrasing efforts culminate with a 24 hour dance marathon event which is full of fun, music, games and free food.

Alpha Phi Omega Co-ed Fraternity - APO is a national co-ed service fraternity that strives to help each individual member develop leadership skills, experience friendship on many levels and provide service to others. Iota Lambda chapter was founded at North Carolina State University in 1950. APO does one-time service projects as well as weekly service with local scouting troops.

Circle K International - Circle K is a college service club sponsored by the Kiwanians. The NCSU Circle K Club was chartered on November 15, 1961. Their mission is to involve college and university students in campus and community service while developing quality leaders and citizens. They are committed to a variety of types of service throughout the year.

Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society - The Gamma Beta Phi Society is an academic honor and service organization for students in colleges and universities in the United States. It is non-secret, non-profit, and co-educational; and, membership therein does not exclude a student from membership in any other organization.

Hope for the Homeless - This group's mission is to 1. provide those living on the streets with food, warm clothes, blankets, and compassion 2. To work cooperatively with other agencies and groups to provide help and support for the homeless. 3. To attempt to instill in those we serve a sense of hope. 4. To provide members, students and the community with a greater understanding of the plight of the homeless. Hope for the Homeless is a student based organization at NC State. They are not affiliated with any one religion, although they may team up with other religious organizations for outreach events. For more information contact Cathy.

March of Dimes Collegiate Council - This NC State organization works to educate students about birth defects. Their mission: To help prevent birth defects and infant mortality by educating college-aged women about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, including preparing for pregnancy later in life.

Science And Technology Enriching Lifelong Leadership In Tomorrow's Endeavors - SATELLITE is a non-profit organization run by students from NC State. It is designed to introduce students from rural North Carolina high schools to science and technology related educational and career paths through a five-day retreat on the NC State campus each May. Approximately thirty Satellite scholars experience a wide array of demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on laboratory experiments with the assistance of professors and currently enrolled students from the College of Engineering (COE), the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), College of Textiles (COT), and the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (PAMS).

Service Raleigh - Service Raleigh is an annual citywide day of service started in 1998 by NC State's Student Government and Park Scholars. Each year, volunteers from the university and surrounding community unite to undertake a variety of projects, each of which provides much needed assistance to local organizations. Service Raleigh is funded by the Park Foundation, NCSU Student Government, and local donors. This event typically takes place the first weekend of April each year.

The Young Scientist Program - The Young Scientist Program was initiated during the Fall of 2002 to link NCSU students with Fred Olds Elementary students. We aim to bridge the gap in the areas of science between NCSU and local elementary and middle schools. Our activities' primary goals are to enrich students' experiences in the sciences through tutoring, demonstrations (in class and out of class), science fair judging, and more.
