| Position: |
Intern |
| Description: |
Mission:
The mission of Community Music School (CMS) is to make quality music instruction available to children from low-income families in order to enhance their lives through participation in the music community.
Internship Goals:
CMS is a diverse “melting pot” of personality, economic and cultural backgrounds. In interacting with students, families and teachers, selected interns will learn a variety of skills needed in order to efficiently plan and execute CMS lessons and events. Selected interns will learn quickly that despite the variety of backgrounds in our population, families and faculty all come together successfully with one major goal in mind: to give these students musical experiences and role models that they would not have access to without our programs. With CMS, our students are off of the streets, rather practicing to better themselves and their families.
Other General Duties During Internship:
1. To help CMS with general “background” office work. This will include assistance with mailings, answering phones, getting the mail, going to the bank, working with/organizing student files and records, instrument files, grant/fundraising files, and other needs as necessary.
2. To help CMS during weekly lessons. This will include assisting with general set up/break down of lessons, checking in students/families, showing families where to go, taking tuition, keeping logs and records of attendance and tuition, loaning instruments, keeping instrument storage room neat, checking the CMS voice mail for absences/notifications and other information, and other needs as they occur. Also, assistance with general “people management” including the CMS waiting room.
3. To help CMS during major events, such as recitals, meetings, and fundraisers. This will include assistance with printing/copying, set up, phone calls, moving instruments and materials, passing out programs, helping people get to the right rooms, and other needs as necessary.
More About the Position:
This is an un-paid internship. If successful, selected interns will gain valuable experiences and references for the future. Preferably, interns will be available from September-May. There is some flexibility with this position.
HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit a resume and cover letter to Anne Everhart, Program Director, anne@cmsraleigh.org. Only emailed applications will be accepted. Please state why you feel that you are the right person for this position, and why you would benefit our organization. Applications are accepted year-round.
