Description: Helping Horse Therapeutic Riding Program is a 100% volunteer run, 501c3 agency. We have been providing therapeutic horseback riding lessons to disabled individuals in the Wake County area for 20 years. Our clients include adults and children with disabilities ranging from Downs Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, attention deficit disorder, traumatic brain injury, and many others. In order for our clients to have a safe riding session, we need 1-3 volunteers working directly with each rider/horse pair. We are constantly recruiting new volunteers. We have two roles for volunteers in our lessons-leading the horse, and walking beside the riders when they are mounted. Leaders are responsible for helping the horse follow the riders’ instructions and behave safely. Sidewalkers may provide physical support for the riders, and help them perform tasks and understand the instructor’s directions. We also need volunteers to perform general maintenance around our farm. No experience with horses or disabilities is required, we can teach you what you need to know!
Times/Skills: None required- we can teach you what you need to know!
