“I
don’t think that anything I have learned in dance will help me coordinate
traffic signals or design a concrete beam, but I do think that dance has
improved who I am as a person by encouraging me to reflect on the impacts
of my decisions just as I reflect on the intellectual and aesthetic impacts
of decisions in dance. With every dance movement in choreography, I ask
myself, ‘Does this make sense? Why?’ I think that these questions
should be asked by everyone when they design something, towns and roundabouts
included.” The
NC State Dance Program -- one of six arts programs of
ARTS NC STATE -- gives students opportunities to study dance through
direct experience in choreographic and performance processes. The Dance
Program provides a creative environment rich in inspiration, imagination,
reflection, and the embodiment of ideas. Dancers at NC State are undergraduate
and graduate students majoring in academic areas as varied as biology,
design, engineering, and mathematics. These students bring their diverse
insights and experiences into the artistic process and contribute meaningfully
to the art making. Please explore our web site for more information on this outstanding program at NC State University! For more information, email danceprogram@ncsu.edu or call 919.513.7345 |
