Performance
The Dance
Program offers opportunities in performance through two student companies:
the NCSU Dance Company, which performs modern dance works; and DanceVisions,
which presents works from many cultural and technical perspectives. Members
of each student company are selected through auditions.
The NCSU Dance Company has been recognized for excellence on both regional
and national levels by the American College Dance Festival Association
and has been selected numerous times to perform in National Galas at the
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The
company performs the choreography of artistic director Robin Harris, assistant
director Autumn Mist Belk, and annual guest artists. Former Pilobolus
artist Jack Arnold will set work on the company this season. The NCSU
Dance Company performs in the Fall Concert, presents an annual spring
concert at NC State, attends and performs at the American College Dance
Festival, and performs at many other venues throughout the year. Students
receive academic credit for participation the company.
DanceVisions is a group of energetic students whose focus is the sharing and exploration of dance styles. DanceVisions was created to give young men and women an opportunity to express themselves creatively through body movement. Originally focusing on modern dance, DanceVisions has expanded its repertoire to now address various dance styles such as African, hip-hop, jazz, and lyrical. Among the things that bring DanceVisions members together are their willingness to translate rhythm into motion and their love and passion for the art of dance. The company presents works by professional guest artists and student company members during an annual spring concert and throughout the year at various community outreach events.
