Student Companies

The Dance Program offers opportunities in performance through two student companies. Both companies hold an audition each fall to select members for the current academic year, and the NCSU Dance Company also holds two auditions in the spring semester to select members for the following year.

The NCSU Dance Company, a modern dance company, has been recognized for excellence on both regional and national levels by the American College Dance Festival Association and has been selected to perform in numorous National Galas, including performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002, and 2004. The company performs work choreographed by Artistic Director Robin Harris, Assistant Director Autumn Mist Belk, and acclaimed guest artists. The NCSU Dance Company performs in the Dance Program Fall Concert, presents a formal spring concert at NC State, attends and performs at the American College Dance Festival, and performs at many other venues each year. Students rehearse 3-5 days a week, take a weekly modern technique class, and receive academic credit for their work in the company. Learn more >

With respect to the history of DanceVisions – a student organization founded in 1977 that continues to thrive independently of the Dance Program – the DanceVisions Repertory Company performs choreographic works with an Afrocentric perspective by students and guest artists. The company performs in the Dance Program Fall Concert, presents a formal spring concert in NC State's Stewart Theatre, and performs in other on and off-campus venues each year. Students in the DanceVisions Repertory Company rehearse 2-3 days per week, take technique classes, work with guest choreographers and teachers, and develop their own student choreography. Learn more >
