Campus Diversity Committees

Committees at NC State University promote campus diversity by providing a forum for students, faculty, and staff to anticipate and respond to the challenges of campus and community life. Whether it is solving problems, offering solutions, developing recommendations or formulating policies and procedures, diversity committees throughout campus are often the first place to take your issues or concerns concerning diversity. On this page we list many of the campus diversity committees, what they do, and who to contact to get involved with the committee.

University Committees

The University Diversity Advisory Committee (UDAC)

Purpose:
The University Diversity Advisory Committee advises and assists the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion in the design and implementation of strategies that advance diversity at NC State. Such diversity strategies will (1) enhance access and opportunity for all in order to create a diverse campus community; (2) enrich the educational and workplace experience for all members of the university community; (3) promote personal and professional growth of all students, faculty, and staff; (4) foster mutual respect, valuing of differences, as well as cross-cultural understanding; and (5) prepare leaders for a competitive global community.

Responsibilities:
Committee members' duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

Periodically review and recommend changes to the university diversity strategic plan,
Facilitate the implementation of existing diversity strategies, programs, and initiatives,
Periodically review and recommend changes to the campus diversity assessment plan,
Assist in highlighting, recognizing, and publicizing diversity initiatives to
promote campus-wide cooperation and participation,
Share and vet diversity strategies, initiatives and information with their campus communities and constituents,
Foster a climate that promotes a better understanding of, and an appreciation for, diversity within their sphere of influence and encourage others to do the same,
Help educate members of the campus community about diversity issues and concers in order to enhance understanding, respect and appreciation for all members of the campus community.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Committee

University Committee on International Programs

Library Diversity Committee

Charged with providing guidance and feedback to the NCSU Libraries in all components of its operation as it deals with ensuring and enhancing diversity in the organization and its services.

Chancellor's African American Community Advisory Council

To advise the Chancellor on matters to promote University and African-American community relationships of mutual benefit and serve as a bridge between the two entities.

African American Coordinating Committee

The African American Coordinating Committee was established in the early 1980’s in response to a need for African American students to have a supportive network of advisors and advocates within the university structure. The mission of the African American Coordinating Committee is:

to collectively serve and support the African American student population at NCSU. Through collaborative university-wide efforts, the coordinating Committee will seek to ensure the academic success and graduation of every African American student who enters NCSU. Relying on the many talents and experiences of this body, students will be a part of an environment that is conducive to their success, both intellectually and socially.

Members consist of a representative from each of the university's colleges. The Coordinating Committee also has representation from other campus units that are significant in the lives of African American students. The African American Coordinating Committee meets on a monthly basis. The work of the African American Coordinating Committee is facilitated by the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion.

Student Committees

Union Activities Board

The UAB is the largest student programming body on the campus, "for students, by students." Social, cultural and educational programs are presented by various UAB committees, such as the Diversity Committee, Black Students Board and International Activities Council. Traditional UAB programs are the Minority Career Fair, the only campus-wide career fair, Unity Week, International Week, PanAfrikan Festival and Human Rights Week.
