2004 Student Diversity Climate Survey Results Released!
In the coming weeks, we will report how students responded to the
questions on the 2004 Diversity Climate Survey that was administered
last January. This will be an opportunity for the campus community
to learn more about how students perceive their diversity experiences
at NC State University. Both graduate and undergraduate students
responded to a series of questions concerning their perceptions of
the state of diversity on campus, how welcomed students felt around
campus and in the classroom, the quantity and quality of their interactions
with others who are different, their participation in diversity-related
activities, and the impact diversity at NC State has had in their
lives. 3,296 undergraduate students and 1,320 graduate students
completed the survey. Here is a preview of what’s to come:
NCSU has achieved its goal of a diverse community.
60.5% of the graduate students and 72.2 % of the undergraduate
students who responded agreed or strongly agreed with this statement.
Diversity is good for NCSU.
90.7 of the graduate students and 85.4% of the undergraduate
students who responded agreed or strongly agreed with this statement.
Interaction with diverse others is essential to the college experience.
70.7% of the graduate students and 68.9% of the undergraduate students
who responded agreed or strongly agreed with this statement.
NCSU provides an environment for free expression of ideas, beliefs,
and opinions.
70.2% of the graduate students and 80.1%
of the undergraduate students who responded agreed or strongly
agreed with this statement.
Respect for diversity will better enable
me to work in my chosen field.
81.2% of the graduate students
and 79.1% of the undergraduate students who responded agreed
or strongly agreed with this statement.
