Student Diversity Advisory Council (SDAC)
Charter

Mission

The Student Diversity Advisory Council is a student extension of the Office for Student Diversity.  The Council advises and makes recommendations to the Office of the VIce Provost for Diversity and Inclusion on all matters related to student diversity. The Council also serves as a catalyst for student engagement by encouraging the University's diverse student groups to effectively foster cross-cultural communication, advance educational and cultural philosophical principles which promote inclusiveness and advocacy, and to collaboratively engender mutual respect for all groups.

  • To promote interaction and collaboration among student groups.

Council ORGANIZATION

Executive Council

1.         The Chair shall be the chief executive officer for the Council; he or she shall plan all regular and special meetings and oversee all Diversity Council activities.

2.         The Vice Chair shall assume the duties of the Chair when the Chair is not available, and shall be responsible for oversight of all committee activities.

3.         The Secretary shall record the minutes of all organizational activities and keep all official records.  It will be duty of this person to communicate with organization membership and all organization correspondence.

4.         The Public Relations council member is responsible for keeping in contact with   University and community organizations that promote and support diversity.

5.          The Publicity member of the council shall advertise and promote all Council      activities as well as any sponsored events.

6.         The Webmaster is responsible for creating and updating the website.  The website         will include the charter, a calendar, a discussion forum, and any necessary items.

7.         The Student Government Diversity Commission Chair will have a seat on the     executive council.

Representative Council

The representative council will consist of members who represent their respective organizations.  The representatives will not only relay information to their organizations, but will also be the organization’s link with other organizations.  Each organization will elect their representative at their respective elections.

Meetings

The executive council will determine meeting times, dates, and locations based upon the availability of council members and will meet at least twice a month.  The representative council will meet twice a semester, more or less depending on scheduling of events.

The executive council shall form special committees as needed.  The Chair shall appoint
committee chairpersons.

Charter Amendments

Amendments to the charter shall be presented by members of the executive council in writing and read at a regular meeting but shall not be voted upon until the next regular meeting.  A unanimous vote shall be required to pass the amendment.
