If a student travels by wheelchair or scooter, is of different stature or size, has physical limitations, etc., the assigned classroom seating may not be usable. Alternate furniture may be required. Responsibilities are as follows:
Instructor
- If the student reports to you that the classroom furniture is not accessible, contact the Classroom Hotline at 515-1555 for University classrooms; the departmental office for other rooms; and Cheryl Branker, Associate Vice Provost and ADA Coordinator.
Student
- Prior to making your request, visit your classrooms to determine if the current furniture will work for you.
- Since it takes time and staff to put furniture into place, make your requests as early as possible to avoid delay.
- Register during the priority registration period.
- Submit a Request for Accommodations form or Student Request for Services (Non ADA/504) form and list the specific details of your request, i.e., furniture needed, clearance measurements, etc.
- Contact the instructor; the Building Liaison; and Cheryl Branker, Associate Vice Provost and ADA Coordinator, if the requested accessible furniture is not available for your use.
- Please note: Making a request for accessible furniture means that the University, with your input, will evaluate the current furniture in the classroom to determine if it is effective for you. If it is not, the University will add the necessary furniture if possible, or move the location of the course.
DSO
- Inform Classroom Hotline staff and Cheryl Branker, Associate Vice Provost and ADA Coordinator, of need for accessible furniture in the assigned rooms.
