Supported Technologies

CCTV- Security Technologies and Applications employs the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) to monitor areas of interest. CCTVs are used in a variety of locations throughout campus and satellite facilities.  Information from CCTVs is collected and stored via electronic storage devices and can be made available for review at a later time.  Select cameras are monitored by the Campus Police Telecommunications Center.

DOOR ACCESS SYSTEMS: Special construction guidelines exist to assist in complying with NC State door access hardware requirements.  This information should be referenced when developing building project scope of work plans.  http://ncsu.edu/facilities/con_guidelines/pdfs/13700_access_control)draft.pdf

C-CURE is the security management application used at NC State to oversee door access privileges.    CITRIX is the web deployment tool for the C-CURE 800 system.

Campus Security and Facility Access
In continual efforts to maintain a safe and secure campus environment, all students, staff and faculty are required to carry and present a Campus Identification card while on campus locations.  This card also acts as your security access card for campus facilities.  http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/campus_environ/REG04.00.6.php

NC State employs “smart cards” for campus door access security.  Smart cards allow for encoding of personal information, allowing select access to restricted areas (door access or proximity card access to select locations)

Start with raw materials

In lieu of smart cards, proximity keyfobs can be used for access.  The proximity keyfob incorporates proximity technology into a convenient device approximately the size of an automotive key.  Key fobs are inherently the same technology as the proximity card.

Campus Duress and Alert Systems
Building security standards are established for campus structures.  This information is considered in the facility design process and is posted for convenient reference in the NC State Construction Guidelines, Section 00712.  http://ncsu.edu/facilities/con_guidelines/pdfs/00712_building_security.pdf

Life Safety and Environmental Surveillance

Life safety/duress entails emergency contact for situations such as medical and panic that require immediately notification and response across campus.  Additionally, monitoring systems are used to track temperature, humidity and water use in select locations on campus.

FAQ:

My department requires me to wear a photo ID badge in my work location. What do I need?
If your department requires you to wear a visible badge when you are in secure locations, or uses proximity cards to access secure doors, do not use your AllCampus Card for that purpose, as it has private data displayed on the card, such as the card number. A special badge has been created for this purpose that is also available at the AllCampus Office at the West Dunn Building.

How do I get building or facility access for my Security Access Card?
Each building has a liaison/administrator who gives clearance to individuals in respected departments.  Clearance requests are submitted via a webform or by contacting the department representative.

My card is damaged and will not access buildings, what do I do?
Bring the damaged card to the West Dunn Building and request a replacement.  If you have the card, the replacement is free.

What do I do if I lose my card?
If you have lost the card, the replacement card is $15.  Contact your departmental administration immediately to deactivate your lost card and request a replacement as soon as possible.  The door access system has an audit capability to track access of individuals.  You are responsible for your card and its use; do not use another person’s card to access facilities, request a replacement card immediately.

Who pays for the proximity card?
Each department should address this individually.  The cost may be absorbed by the department or listed as an expectation for the individual.
