Introduction
All NC State employees are required to participate
in the University's Hazard Communication Training Program. The Hazard Communication
Training at NC State is offered in two modules, Hazard Communication part 1
and part 2.
All employees are required
to complete Hazard Communication part 1 upon employment by the University. This
training requirement can be satisfied in two ways;
- by reading the online tutorial and passing the quiz
or
- by attending a classroom
presentation at the Environmental, Health and Safety Center
Only employees working in areas or near processes
that contain hazardous chemicals are required to complete the second part of
the Hazard Communication training. Hazard Communication part 2 is an in-depth
discussion of specific chemical hazards in the employees' work area. This portion
of the training is normally conducted by the employee's supervisor.
Purpose - You Have the
"Right to Know"
!
Employees have the "Right
to Know" if any hazardous chemicals are present in their work area. Employers
are obligated to provide employees with effective information and training on
any hazardous chemicals in their work area.
Employees have the "Right to
Know" measures they can take to protect themselves from chemical
hazards, including specific procedures the employer has implemented to protect
employees from exposure to hazardous chemicals. Chemical-Specific information
must always be available to employees through labels
and material safety data sheets (MSDS). Employees
shall be trained on the labeling system and the material safety data sheet,
and how they can obtain and use hazard information.
Hazard Communication training for employees
must include a discussion of the workplace written
hazard communication program developed by the employer.
