Radiation Safety surveys are performed at least quarterly to verify that clinical and research activities are minimizing hazards to employees, the general public and the environment. Additionally, these surveys fulfill the routine surveillance requirements imposed by the North Carolina Division of Radiation Protection.
Radiation Safety’s Laboratory Evaluation is a comprehensive safety review of a facility, examining both physical and administrative aspects of laboratory research activities. The physical parameters evaluated include radiation levels within the laboratory, appropriate cautionary devices, personal protective equipment, required postings and availability of the current Radiation Safety Manual. Administrative parameters include the proper use of personal protective equipment, personal monitoring devices, waste disposal activities, and ALARA techniques when handling sources of radiation.
